Patchwork Jazz Orchestra in concert
The contemporary big band sound of 17-piece Patchwork Jazz Orchestra live in concert from Leeds. Plus, vocal great Sheila Jordan shares influences from across her career.
J to Z presents Patchwork Jazz Orchestra live in concert from Leeds. The 17-piece outfit presents a bold, imaginative revisioning of progressive big band jazz and features a number of the UK’s rising composers and instrumentalists, including saxophonists Sam Rapley and Alex Hitchcock, bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado and guitarist Rob Luft.
Plus, veteran jazz vocalist and scat innovator Sheila Jordan shares music and anecdotes from across her illustrious career. Jordan was inspired to pursue a career in jazz by the music of her friend Charlie Parker, who referred to her as ‘the singer with the million dollar ears’.
Plus, presenter Jumoké Fashola plays a selection of classic tracks and the best new releases.
