About Excellent Development
We support some of the world鈥檚 poorest people by helping them to transform their own lives through building sand dams, which provide clean water for life and the opportunity to develop livelihoods. Sand dams free communities, putting their future in their own hands.
Meet Josephine
Josephine is a 60 year old farmer in southeast Kenya whose nearest water source used to be a contaminated river which could take her 5 hours to walk to every day.
Supporting communities to build sand dams
Josephine鈥檚 community worked side by side with Excellent Development volunteers last summer to build their first sand dam.
Lifelong water from sand
Josephine鈥檚 completed sand dam is now capturing up to 40 million litres of water every rainy season for her and her community to use. The water is stored safe from disease and evaporation within sand, and easily extractable via pipework connected to hand-pumps and taps.

Our presenter, Sarah Parker, is a passionate Excellent Development supporter and volunteer who travelled to southeast Kenya last summer to help Josephine and her community build their first sand dam.
Supporting women and children
Excellent Development鈥檚 sand dam projects enable communities to have a clean, lifelong water source close to their homes, giving them more time for education, work or farming.
