Memories of Janet Seidel and Billie Holiday
Janet Seidel ran a sophisticated jazz trio until her death in 2017. Her musical legacy is recalled on a new CD. And Billie Holiday, who died in 1959, is similarly remembered.
Janet Seidel was Australia's first lady of jazz. She was a frequent visitor to Northern Ireland with her sophisticated trio, her brother David on bass, and Chuck Morgan on guitar. Chuck's death came just a year after that of Janet. A new CD remembers the music they made together, and recordings from her last visit to the Derry Festival show more of three outstanding talents, with the bonus of a guest appearance by Derry's own Gay McIntyre. And a new CD shows the great Billie Holiday in some of her later recordings.
