Another direct rule budget as Stormont stalemate rumbles on.
Another direct rule budget as Stormont stalemate rumbles on. In that time MLAs have been paid 拢10M in wages and other contributions. How long can this go on?
The Secretary of State says she's working on another Stormont budget which will be set in Westminster. But Karen Bradley says that restoring the institutions is her "top priority". It will be the third budget to be set since the Assembly collapsed. In that time - Assembly members have been paid 拢10 million in wages and other contributions since powersharing collapsed. That's money you have paid them. That's led to renewed calls for direct rule. Or should we continue to wait - and continue to pay - until the Assembly members get their act together? Stephen spoke to Newsletter political editor Sam McBride, TUV leader Jim Allister, SDLP deputy leader Nicola Mallon, and Alliance MLA Stephen Farry.
Also on the programme - This Is Your Life. The series, previously presented by Eamonn Andrews and later by Michael Aspel, ended in 2003 after 48 years. But Eamonn Holmes has said he is "on a crusade" to resurrect it. Should it come back? Would it work in 2019 and more importantly would you watch it? Stephen got the views of commentator Heidi McAlpin and Showbiz columnist Kelly Allen.
And, the mother of murdered toddler Jamie Bulger has asked a filmmaker to withdraw his film from the Oscars nomination pool. Denise Fergus spoke about Vincent Lambe's Oscar-nominated short film Detainment, which centres around the police interviews of James' killers, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, who were both 10 years old at the time. Ms Fergus has penned an open letter to Mr Lambe, She says in the letter: "James was my baby and not yours and it certainly wasn't 'your responsibility' to tell it, you have no right to use what happened to my son as a way to try and make a name for yourself." Lambe has previously apologised for upsetting James' family but has said he will not withdraw the film. What do you think about that? Should families always be consulted before these types of films are made? Should he withdraw his film from the Oscars? Stephen got the views of Fionola Meredith and and Aileen O'Reilly.
