There is mud, sweat and possibly tears in Tilburg, the Dutch host city for the 25th annual European Cross Country Championships. Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe describe the action.

Great Britain were the top nation last year with five gold medals, including Harriet Knowles-Jones in the women's under-20 event and wins for all three women's age-range teams.

Andrew Butchart earned individual bronze in the 2017 senior men's race and was hoping for another podium finish this time after recovering from a broken foot. European 5,000m track champion Sifan Hassan was among the senior women's favourites on home soil, with the 2015 winner setting a European half-marathon record in September.
