This month, we meet the man who saved the dancing bears of Bulgaria a survivor of the Burmese uprising of 1988 and the engineer who tunnelled through Mont Blanc.
Razia Iqbal presents five first-hand stories from recent history. These include a remarkable account of the shooting down of an Iranian passenger plane by a US warship in 1988, the engineer who struggled to make the Sydney Opera House stand up, a woman who was caught up in the violent struggle for a Jewish state in British-controlled Palestine, a story of deaf students making their voices heard, and a nurse who worked in Britain's National Health Service when it was first created in 1948.
