Ageing
Endurance cyclist Lee Craigie jumps on her bike, Jimmy, in search of a few lessons in how to accept the natural ageing process and all the changes in body and mind that go with it
Whether we like it or not ageing is something that happens to all of us. How we deal with our ageing minds and bodies is up to us. Endurance cyclist Lee Craigie openly admits her fear of ageing, unsure if her body will still be able to spend hours on the bike or if her mind will stay sharp.
In this episode of Life Cycle, in a very frank, warm and funny conversation, Lee talks to her mum, Lesley, about how to 鈥渙wn鈥 ageing. She learns not worry about the future but to treat ageing like grieving, one day at a time.
Played on a doubles badminton court, Pickleball is a cross between tennis, table tennis and badminton. Lee meets some of her mum鈥檚 pals for a game and quickly learns that while you get older strength and stamina might be replaced by tactics and guise there is certainly no loss of competitiveness.
Meanwhile, Dervla Murphy, a hero of Lee鈥檚, has her final journey all planned. Her frankness and simple acceptance of her own death helps Lee start to realise that perhaps death is something to try and embrace rather than run from.
