Taxing holiday lets; a warning if you have money abroad.
A delay to the Government's pensions cold calling ban, a tax crackdown on Airbnb-type hosts, and a warning to declare money held abroad - no matter how little.
Pensions cold calling: The Government has confirmed that the ban on pensions cold calling has been delayed until "as soon as possible". The regulations explaining the details of the ban were supposed to have been published by the end of last month. We hear from Michelle Cracknell, Chief Executive of the Pensions Advisory Service.
People who let out property through sites like Airbnb could face a tax crackdown from next year. The Government has published draft laws which it will finalise after the Budget in November. Many people currently enjoying a 拢7500 tax free allowance under the Government's rent-a-room scheme would no longer qualify unless they stayed in the property for at least one night of the let. Jane Moore from the Institute of Chartered Accountants explains the new rules.
If you have a bank account, a property or investments held outside the UK and you've not told HM Revenue & Customs about them, then you have just a couple of months to let them know, or you could face hefty penalties. John Barnett, Head of Private Client and Tax at the law firm, Burges Salmon, discusses the developments.
And HMRC has launched a new service via a well-known smart speaker to help people with tax credits queries. Will Paul be able to make it work?
Presenter: Paul Lewis
