Event for business figures to pay to meet the Head of NI Civil Service today is scrapped
Event for business figures to pay to meet the head of NI civil service today is scrapped - the Nolan Show can reveal he didn't know people were being charged to meet him.
A select group of companies and charities had paid to meet the Head of the Civil Service - David Sterling. We can reveal this morning that meeting has been cancelled within hours of it due to take place. We can exclusively reveal that David Sterling did not know money was involved and a spokesperson for the Executive office said it was right to cancel the event. Resolute Public Affairs organised the event. It is led by Terry McErlean. Stephen spoke to him and asked him why it was cancelled and got reaction from Newsletter political editor Sam McBride.
Also on the programme, the Professional Darts Corporation says it's dropping its 'walk-on girls' - the glamorous young women who accompany dart's biggest names to the stage. However, darts fans have hit out at the decision and over 15,000 people have signed a petition for their reinstatement. Are they sexist and outdated or do they simply add a touch of glamour to spectator sports? Stephen got the views of commentators Martin Daubney and Emma Woolf.
And, the Welsh Assembly wants to lower the voting age to 16 in time for the council elections in 2022. This is one of the plans in a modernisation of their voting system and follows the example of Scotland where the voting age has already been lowered for the Scottish and local government elections - with 16-year-olds also able to vote in the independence referendum in 2014. So should Northern Ireland follow suit and let young people have a vote? Joining Stephen were commentator and star of Top Table Thomas Copeland and Ruth Dudley Edwards.
