Independent Venue Week: Leicester
Independent Venue Week returns for its fifth year and, to celebrate, Steve Lamacq tours five locations around the UK. Tonight he's in Leicester.
Independent Venue Week (IVW) returns for its 5th year and, to celebrate, Steve Lamacq tours five locations around the UK and shines a light on the alternative music scene in each place, celebrating the grassroots music venues that have become the bedrock of the local area.
This year, Steve will be broadcasting from Stowmarket, Guildford, Hebden Bridge, Liverpool and - tonight - continues the week broadcasting from 麻豆社 Radio Leicester. Steve will be joined by Gaz Coombes, who will be playing local Leicester venue The Cookie that night and there will be a session from a local 麻豆社 Music Introducing artist.
Founded in 2014 as a way to celebrate the heroes that own and run small venues all across the country, Independent Venue Week has grown massively in five years. Starting out with just 17 venues in 2014, it has grown this year with almost 200 venues already signed up. The project will run from Monday 29th January - Sunday 4th February 18.
