A report by MPs says wealthy pensioners should stop getting winter fuel allowance and the money should go on food for poor OAPs.
As many as one million older people are "withering away" in their own home because of malnutrition caused by loneliness. That's according to a new report by an all-party parliamentary group on hunger. They are suggesting the winter fuel allowance should be means-tested to free money up to help tackle hunger. So - should wealthy pensioners give up their benefits to help others? Vinny got the views of former Conservative minister and broadcaster Edwina Currie and businessman Frank Shivers.
Also on the programme, a mother-of-two whose car was stolen and involved in a collision with police says she has been left "deeply distressed" after being told one of the officers is claiming against her insurance. This story was reported by the Irish News. The car was stopped on the Falls Road after officers slowed it with a 'stinger' device before a collision involving the car and police vehicle at Millfield. Vinny got reaction from SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly and former PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Alan McQuillan.
And - 'We need more investment in our armed forces in order to keep up with Russia'. So says army chief General Sir Nick Carter. He says Britain's ability to respond to military threats from Russia will be "eroded" without further investment. Meanwhile Theresa May's spokesperson said the 'UK's 拢36bn annual defence budget meant the government was addressing the range of threats from "a position of strength". Would you pump more money into our defences? Vinny was joined by Phil Kelly from the NI Labour Party and Danny Kinahan, a former MP and army captain.
