The life and times of Mark E Smith

Shaun reflects on the life and work on The Fall's Mark E Smith. Plus John Kearns joins Shaun to chat about his new live show.

Thursday morning sees Shaun reflecting on the life and times of Mark E Smith who passed away on Wednesday. The Fall singer died aged 60, the band's manager has said. Pam Van Damned said the frontman died at home on Wednesday morning and a more detailed statement would follow "in the next few days".
"In the meantime, Pam and Mark's family request privacy at this sad time," the statement said.

Paying tribute, Smith's former bandmate and 6 Music presenter Marc Riley said the singer "taught me a lot about life and he taught me a lot about music".

Shaun, along with Matt Everitt will look back on his life and music and celebrate the man who once said: "If it's me and yer granny on bongos, it's the Fall."

Alongside this, Shaun welcomes the only winner of both the Best Show and Best Newcomer Edinburgh Comedy Awards - John Kearns. He joins Shaun after 9am today to chat about his new live show - Don't Worry, They're Here. The show is a stand-up routine of someone who has the everyday worries of the common man in a small world, but who is unusually insistent in expressing them. Plus, today's Album of the Day come from Starcrawler and as it's Burns Night we asked our good friend, Radio 2's Ken Bruce to record one of Burns' poems, the appropriately titled 'Up in the Morning Early.
