03/01/2018 - They Never Hit The Face, It Was Too High
A New Year's Eve tradition in Belfast was to throw empty beer bottles at the Albert Clock.
A New Year's Eve tradition in Belfast was to throw empty beer bottles at the Albert Clock. June remembers the men leaving the pub just before midnight to go out and throw them. John The Taxi Driver says it was to try and stop the clock. Frank Sinatra says it was good luck if your bottle managed to hit the clock face. Norman said they never reached that far up. Decorator Dave said if you couldn't hit the clock face with the bottle, you didn't have enough to drink. Jim in Belfast said they used to mark New Year in his house by taking the clock off the mantelpiece and putting it on the floor in the middle of the room and everyone would walk around it three times while making wishes. Music from Dan Auerbach, Take That, Steve Gibbons Band, Travis, Rolling Stones and more.
