23/10/2017 - Gathering on Scalp
A Derry artist announces a proposal for the biggest artwork ever created in Ireland. And listeners' thoughts on the safety of the city centre after a man is attacked late at night.
A proposal for what would be the biggest, and one of the most ambitious art projects ever attempted in Ireland comes from Derry artist Maurice Harron. He's the man behind some of the most iconic sculpture in the north west of NI, with works including Let the Dance Begin and Hands Across the Divide. He plans to create an 80-metre stone circle at the top of Scalp Mountain, enclosing 21 huge sculptures of men, women, children, horses, and dog, to honour the tribes and clans of the area's ancient past.
And how safe is the city centre? One man's in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked in Newmarket Street in the early hours. It came less than a month after the death of Jordan McConomy, a teenager also attacked during a night out.
