PSNI plan to recruit more LGBT officers condemned

For the first time ever, the PSNI is to hold a number of recruitment events for members of the LGBT community.

For the first time ever, the PSNI is to hold a number of recruitment events for members of the LGBT community. Three information evenings will be held early next month. The aim is to employ 300 new officers by the end of March next year. The move has been welcomed by gay, lesbian and trans support groups. Stephen discusses with Sammy Morrison from the TUV and Gavin Boyd from the Rainbow Project.

Also on the programme, do your kids love Fireman Sam? Does it bother you that the cartoon character is called "fire-MAN" and not "fire-FIGHTER"? Well, it bothers the UK's most high-profile female fire chief, Dany Cotton, who runs the London Fire Brigade. She has written to the programme makers asking them to change the title. What do you think? Stephen got the views of commentators Emma Woolf and Lynette Burrows.

And, PSNI chief constable George Hamilton appeared in front of the NI Affairs Committee at Westminster this morning. Kate Hoey MP asked the chief constable about the PSNI seizing historical flags associated with loyalist paramilitary groups and whether it was rational. Loyalist commentator Jamie Bryson and journalist Malachi O'Doherty discuss.
