Mobile switching, Cheese tea, Speed awareness
Switching mobile phone companies - how reforms by the regulator could make it easier. Cheese tea - does it taste as bad as it sounds? Plus speed awareness courses and insurance.
Mobile phone companies could soon be facing new rules on how they sell to us. The regulator, Ofcom, has told You and Yours it plans to bring in reforms to make it easier to switch by the end of the year. The key change is that mobile customers would no longer have to speak to the company they want to leave.
Ofcom says this is one of the major hurdles for people wanting to switch. At the moment customers wanting to port their number to a new provider have to rely on the company they're leaving to supply them with a unique access code. We've spoken to people who've been persuaded to stay with their old operator and take out a new contract, when going through this process. Some say they've ended up disappointed with their new deal.
Cheese and tea don't normally go together but a new infusion that combines the two is starting to find its way into UK cafes. Cheese tea originated in Asia but will it appeal to the taste buds of the British public? Our reporter visits a caf茅 in Manchester to try it for himself and find out if this unusual drink really will take off here.
We report on how speed awareness courses are pushing up the price of insurance premiums. Sir Peter North, whose review led to the creation of these courses in Britain has told You and Yours that it's "unfair" and "counterproductive" that some drivers who take the courses are still being hit with higher insurance bills - even if they haven't technically committed an offence. The number of drivers taking speed awareness courses has more than doubled over the past decade with more than a million people completing them last year. We speak to a lawyer about whether people caught speeding have to declare these courses when taking out insurance.
