The Independent Custody Visiting Association supports and represents local custody visiting schemes where volunteers make unannounced visits to police custody to check on the rights, entitlements and well-being of detainees. Following a case witnessed by one of their volunteers more recently they've been looking at how, often very vulnerable, women in custody are treated when they are having a period. Jenni talks to Katie Kempen, Chief Executive of ICVA, about what they uncovered and to Superintendent for Thames Valley Katy Barrow-Grint about the difficulties of dealing with detainees with complex needs.
