CLUE 1: Many Scottish place names refer to water or religion. Today's place name has been associated with both, but only one is correct.

CLUE 3: There's a very similar name near Garlieston (Dumfries & Galloway).
CLUE 4: There are also links with the names Colville and Ravenscraig.
