Children's commissioner hits out at lack of political action to address uniform costs
Children's Commissioner hits out at lack of political action to address uniform costs and Nolan investigation finds schools putting children into isolation rooms against UN advice.
Another story has emerged during our investigation into school uniforms in Northern Ireland. We have been given an excerpt from the Northern Ireland Commission for Children and Young People's Educational Inequalities and Inclusion Paper. It raises the issue of "isolation rooms". The paper says they are used "for infringements of schools rules such as uniform breaches or low level disciplinary incidents." "These are sometimes referred to as "internal suspensions". The Northern Ireland commissioner for children and young people Koulla Yiasouma joined Stephen in the studio this morning and we got the views of Kathleen O'Hare, principal of Hazelwood Integrated College.
Also on the programme, Glenavon Football Club have been told that they must cover up a memorial to players who gave their lives during World War I by European football's governing body UEFA. Fifteen players from the Lurgan Blues are commemorated on the memorial at the club's Mourneview Park stadium but the club will have to erect a temporary screen around the memorial. Commentator Malachi O'Doherty reacts.
And, bonfire issue burns on - Alliance councillor Michael Long and community worker Jim Wilson clash.
