The Department of Education does a U-turn on cutting grants for school uniforms.

The Department of Education has done a U-turn over controversial plans to cut money to help less off families pay for school uniforms. Earlier this month, officials ordered the Education Authority to reduce the grant by 拢3 million. It comes as a group of parents in Derry set up a service to redistribute second-hand uniforms to parents struggling to afford them. Vanessa Craig from the service says they have been inundated with calls for help. Our reporter Lauren Millar went along to speak to Vanessa Craig and Danny Morrison at Shantallow Community Collective.

She represented Ireland at two Olympics and the people she trained with and coached here have described her as an inspiration. But yesterday, Derry triathlete Aileen Reid announced she's retiring from the sport she loves because of injury. The 35-year-old broke the news in a moving letter on Twitter "From time to time I remind myself that I was good once and not to give up. But the light is fading at the end of the tunnel and my belief that I would be able to overcome this injury and be the athlete I once was, is disappearing. I don't want to be half-good at anything, and so it's time to wave the white flag. I've been through the stages of grieving - it's a scary time leaving something behind, someone I was, something that I did that will probably define me forever.".
