Emile Parisien
Soweto Kinch introduces a full set performed by saxophonist Emile Parisien and his quintet at the 2017 Saalfelden Jazz Festival. Plus a new release of a Jaco Pastorius concert.
The French saxophonist Emile Parisien was one of the stars of last year's London Jazz Festival and he has been described by Le Monde as "the best new thing that has happened in European jazz for a long time". Tonight, Soweto Kinch presents a full festival set by Parisien's quintet from the Saalfelden Jazz Festival, with special guests pianist Joachim K眉hn and clarinettist Michel Portal joining guitarist Manu Codjia, bassist Simon Tailleu and percussionists Mario Costa and Wolfgang Reisinger. They play new music from Parisien's latest album "Sfumato" as well as original compositions by K眉hn and Portal. Also in tonight's show, Soweto talks to legendary drummer Peter Erskine about the release of a newly discovered concert by bassist Jaco Pastorius and his "Word of Mouth" big band.
