A warning that our top story this morning contains graphic language. A young west Belfast man fears for his life because of frequent homophobic attacks. This is his story.
A warning that our top story this morning contains graphic language. We are aware it is the school holidays so you may not want children nearby to hear what we will broadcast over the next 30 minutes. This story is deeply worrying. It is sad and raises questions about what we do in Northern Ireland when an individual is being hounded so much, that he doesn't want to live anymore. Tony Devine is 25 years old and lives in west Belfast. Tony is gay. His door has been plastered in grafitti and his windows have been smashed numerous times. He has been attacked many times in the street. Sometimes, in the dark of night, he runs from his house to his mother, who comes to protect him after yet another attack happens. Tony has now been left suicidal and has regular panic attacks. He sat in our studio in tears, trembling. This is his story.
Also on the programme, money given to low income families to help pay for school uniforms could be cut substantially by the Department of Education to save money. Stephen spoke to journalist and parent Tina Calder, headmaster Paul Bell from Botanic Primary School in Belfast, Chris Lyttle from the Alliance Party and Colin McGrath from the SDLP.
