Call You and Yours: How does living in the countryside affect your services?
Consumer phone-in. How does living in a rural area affect the services listeners get?
On today's Call You & Yours, Winifred Robinson is asking how living in the countryside affects the services you receive. New research suggests that essential transport, education, health and welfare services are patchy and diminishing in rural areas.
Whether it's seeing the GP, getting to school or college, arranging care for an elderly relative, going to the bank, or just shopping, the evidence suggests it's difficult and getting harder for people who live in the countryside. Mental health services are also generally more limited in rural areas, with fewer doctors, nurses and therapists per head of population.
What is it like for you and your family living in the countryside? Whether it's public or private services you need, how does living in a rural area affect you? Have things changed over the last few years? How is your community responding to the challenge? Do you now help neighbours or relatives, or are you helped by others who live nearby?
