NHS Continuing Care failings, Rubber sport pitches, Barter holidays

People with complex medical needs still aren't getting NHS funding they are entitled to because of a 'flawed' system, according to a group of major charities.

People who are very ill or who have complex medical needs are being failed by an NHS funding system which isn't 'fit for purpose'. A new report from 13 major charities says that some people aren't getting the care funding they are entitled to from NHS Continuing Healthcare, because of a 'flawed' system which is slow, patchy and can deny funding to people who a team of professionals have deemed eligible. You & Yours hears from someone who takes part in the NHS Continuing Healthcare assessment process and says that NHS guidelines are being interpreted differently across England.

How to barter for your winter break in Italy. You & Yours talks to a couple from Cornwall on holiday on the Adriatic Coast who've bartered goods and services in exchange for free accommodation as part of La Settimana Del Baratto or Bartering Week.

A hundred football clubs in Holland have stopped using artificial grass pitches made from rubber crumb from broken down car tyres because of health concerns. Authorities in the EU and the US have launched studies into fears that the covering for football pitches and playgrounds might be carcinogenic. Professor Andrew Watterson from the University of Stirling is taking part in the research.

And a worker at Waitrose tells You & Yours they are unhappy about being asked to give up their extra time-and-a-half overtime payments over Christmas. Staff at John Lewis and Waitrose are being offered the chance to give up their overtime payments in return for extra shifts.
