Dementia

A North Down man has been in a battle with TalkTalk after his elderly mother, who has Dementia, racked up hundreds of pounds in calls to directory enquiries.

The woman, who lives alone in Belfast, had been repeatedly using the 118500 service to call her family, her doctor or the hospital.

Initially, TalkTalk suggested that the family "remove the phone socket" from the elderly woman's home, and offered 拢30 as a settlement - despite bills totalling of hundreds of pounds.

They said they didn't have the capability to block calls to the premium rate number without giving the customer a broadband package - which they had offered a 12 month discount on.

Tory Spin Doctor

David Cameron's former spin doctor Sir Craig Oliver has written a book on his experiences at the heart of the EU Referendum campaign.

In it, he is critical of various figures in the Remain camp, from Jeremy Corbyn to the Prime Minister Theresa May. But his role in the campaign has come in for criticism itself from fellow Remainers.

Down's Syndrome

Down's Syndrome

What would a world be like without Down's Syndrome? That's the question that was asked last night in a 麻豆社 2 documentary made by actor and comedienne Sally Phillips, whose son, Ollie, has the genetic condition.

The documentary has sparked a fierce debate surrounding a new, non invasive screening test, which tells pregnant women with 99 per cent accuracy whether their baby is likely to have Down's Syndrome. Currently the test is only offered privately but is expected to be introduced on the NHS. So are we getting into the realms of allowing only 'perfect' children to be allowed to be born? Or is this a way to enable a mother or family to properly plan for the future? Our reporter, Nicola Weir, spoke to Portadown mother, Lyn Steele. Her son, David is 8 and he was born with Down's Syndrome.
