HARDtalk on the Road in Canada - First Nations
Stephen Sackur asks Canada's minister for indigenous affairs, Carolyn Bennett, whether the treatment of First Nations people represents Canada's shame?
HARDtalk is on the road across Canada to look at the size of the task facing Trudeau's government. Poverty and unemployment remains disproportionately high among First Nations peoples who also have to contend with a crisis among Aboriginal women, thousands of whom have been murdered or gone missing over the past 30 years. HARDtalk attends a vigil in downtown Calgary for a young woman found dismembered in a local park two months ago and also journeys to the remote First Nations community of Attawapiskat in northern Ontario where more than 100 people, mostly teenagers, have tried to commit suicide since October last year. Stephen Sackur asks the minister for indigenous affairs, Carolyn Bennett, whether the treatment of First Nations people represents Canada's shame?
