To mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme, Gary Blair presents a special edition of Kist which includes memories of three Ulstermen who achieved the highest award for valour on the first day of the battle.

Brian Ervine has written poems, songs and a play about The Somme and he tells Gary why it remains an important part of our shared history.

Gary also meets two young army cadets who have their own Somme stories to tell, and there鈥檚 a poem from Charlie Gillen to make us stop and reflect on the horror of 100 years ago.
