Episode 12
The last of the quarter-finals of the culinary competition. The six best chefs from the week's heats compete in two challenges set by judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti.
It is the last of the Professional MasterChef quarter-finals and the six best chefs from the week's heats come together to compete in two challenges set by judges Marcus and Monica. To earn the last three places in knockout week, the chefs face a pastry invention test, before the best four continue on to serve their food to some of the UK's most hard to please food critics. Only the most exciting culinary talents will continue in the competition.
In the pastry invention test, the chefs have an hour and 30 minutes to create one dish from a selection of ten sweet ingredients including peaches, champagne, pecan nuts and pudding rice. This demanding test allows the judges to seek out the all-rounder that they are looking for, as the chefs are forced to think on their feet and use their creative muscle to turn out a dessert good enough to get them through to the next round. After tasting the dishes, the judges send the weakest two chefs home.
The remaining four chefs now face one of the toughest rounds of the competition. In just one hour and 15 minutes, they must serve up an exceptional two-course menu to three of the country's biggest restaurant critics, as well as Marcus and Monica. This is their chance to shine, as they cook their own food for people who could one day make or break their careers. Only food that excites the tricky diners and impresses the judges will win the chefs that all-important place in knockout week.
After a tough session in the kitchen, one more chef's ambitions will be thwarted when they are sent home, leaving the dreams of the three remaining chefs well and truly alive as they continue on into knockout week and move one step closer to being crowned Professional MasterChef Champion 2015.
