Six fantastic trees have very deep roots and because of that, amazing stories to tell - just one reason why they've been shortlisted by the Woodland Trust in the search for NI's Tree of the Year.聽 They are - The Dark Hedges, Ballymoney, Moneypenny's Yew, Portadown, The Mulberry Tree, Bangor, The聽Peace Tree, West Belfast, Tree of Peace and Unity, Antrim and the Tree of Witness, Derry/ Londonderry.聽 Anne Marie McAleese talks to Patrick Cregg, Director of the Trust.聽
Glens of Antrim Piping Weekend
When the Antrim Coast Road opened at the beginning of the last century, small villages began to develop and with them businesses and shops, half hardware, half grocery - a funeral parlour at the back perhaps, which in Carnlough's case in the 1030's was run by Miss Netta Jane Johnston.聽 A聽woman who will be much talked about at a piping festival run in her honour.聽 Piper Wilbert Garvin had a hand in organising it and he speaks to Anne Marie McAleese about the eccentric, Miss Johnston.
