George the Poet

Spoken word performer and rapper George the Poet joins Mary Anne Hobbs to talk about being educated through music.

It's exam season! Spoken word performer and rapper, George the Poet, is on the show to talk about being educated through music, and the importance of learning both in and out of the classroom.

George Mpanga has been rapping since the age of 15. While studying politics, psychology and sociology at Cambridge University he used his skills as a writer to run poetry workshops for children in London.

He released his debut album 'The Chicken and the Egg' through Island Records in 2014, and was shortlisted for the Critics' Choice category at the 2015 Brit Awards the same year. Praised for using his voice as a force for change in society, he then came fifth in the 麻豆社's Sound of 2015 poll, an award which showcases emerging artists.

As well as ensuring you all go away super-inspired by George, we'll also be filling your brains with interesting, enlivening tunes. Feel free to take your revision break from 7-10am today ...
