Belton House 2
The Antiques Roadshow makes a return visit to Belton House, where finds include a ceramic souvenir of the first elephant at Regent's Park Zoo.
The Antiques Roadshow makes a return visit to Belton House in Lincolnshire, where treasures include a ceramic model of London Zoo's first elephant, a 400-year-old Japanese chest and a walnut with a secret.
Fiona Bruce delves into the First World War history of Belton House, when it was transformed into a garrison town for the Machine Gun Corps, while militaria specialist Graham Lay hears a remarkable story of bravery associated with an unusual medal.
Silver specialist Alastair Dickenson is enchanted by a walnut with a secret and the team are also intrigued by a series of quirky items, including a child's chair in the shape of a starfish and 'Jumbo', a late-19th-century ceramic souvenir of the first elephant at Regent's Park Zoo.
Other fascinating finds include an engraved glass vase won at a fair in the 1920s and a collection of memorabilia relating to the Duke of Windsor that belonged to his chauffeur.
The Roadshow also reflects on over 400 years of trade with Japan in an interview with Professor Timon Screech, featuring an ornate lacquer chest that may have arrived on the very first shipment of Japanese treasures to arrive in England in 1614.
