Bob Chilcott (conductor)
Virtuoso percussionists O Duo join the 麻豆社 Singers in a programme which explores the visceral and thrilling impact of the human voice when harnessed with percussion instruments of many kinds - starting with the blood-curdling incantation which is Veljo Tormis's curse upon the metal from which instruments of war and destruction are fashioned. Bob Chilcott's 'The Miracle of the Spring' explores one of the building-blocks of life itself, water, in the context of those parts of the world where this precious element is scarce. And - in a programme taking in several different cultures and continents - the world premiere of Cecilia McDowall's brand-new piece celebrates, in Shakespearian words, the joy of music itself.
Conducting the 麻豆社 Singers tonight, their Principal Guest Conductor Bob Chilcott celebrates his 60th birthday next week and a place as one of the choral world's best loved living composers.
