AGHERTON ANCIENT CEMETERY
The parish of Agherton is situated in Portstewart, a seaside town that Anne Marie grew up in and knows well. Anne Marie went to meet Poet David Atkinson in the cemetery to hear some of his poems and how he has drawn inspiration for some of his writings. VINTAGE TRACTION ENGINE ROAD RUN
Steam engine enthusiasts you’re in for a treat on St Patrick’s Day! It’s the annual ‘Steam and Shamrocks’ vintage steam traction engine road run. It will steam its way from Irvinestown to Enniskillen to join the St Patrick’s Day Parade. And it will be driven by Father Brian D'Arcy whose father worked on the steam railways. Anne Marie talks to Father Brian D’Arcy in studio.Â
Saint Patrick’s Day Carnival Procession
The city of Armagh, world famous as the city of the patron saint is expecting 20,000 visitors to celebrate Saint Patrick. The festivities begin with music, dance and entertainment free for all to enjoy. They’ll be colourful floats, marching bands and street performers. Anne Marie talks to Assumpta O’Neill from the District Council.Â
COALISLAND CANAL WALK
A great thing to do after Sunday lunch on Mother’s day is to take a scenic walk in outstanding natural beauty. The walk begins at the Cornmill in Coalisland town centre and there’s also a free wildlife exhibition in the heritage centre this weekend. Between Macks Bridge and Moor Bridge the River Torrent is on one side of the towpath and the canal is on the other. Walks begin at 3 and 3.30pm.Â
BIRD RINGING
Would you like to know why birds are ringed and get a free demonstration on how to ring birds? Well this Saturday, the event is taking place near Maghera town centre in Drumnaph Forest for 3 hours. Anne Marie talks live to bio-diversity officer with Cookstown Council, Mark Edgar to get more information.
MINIATURE MODELS
Mid Ulster Sports Arena will be opening its doors Saturday 14th March at Mid Ulster's first ever Farm and Construction Model Show in Cookstown. Anne Marie speaks to Phillip Armstrong from Stewartstown who put the whole thing together.Â
