Children who live in care homes would like to be able to stay until they are aged 21, according to 鈥淪taying Put,鈥 a government-funded report.聽 Under current rules, they must leave after they turn 18 when local authority funding runs out. Last year,聽聽was passed allowing children who live in foster homes to remain until they are 21.聽 So why is there a different system for children in care homes and children in foster homes?聽 What is the impact on the children concerned?聽 What is the financial cost? What is the best age for children to leave care?聽
The film聽聽tonight at 11.05pm.
Viv Grant
Back in 2001, Viv Grant was a very successful headteacher, who had turned a failing primary school around. This success however came at a cost - the sacrifice of her own family life, acute isolation and endless self-doubt.聽 Everyone looked to her for leadership, but she had no-one to talk to.聽 Eventually she left her job to found an independent support service for school leaders. Viv talks to Jenni about her experience, and the importance of meeting headteachers鈥 emotional needs.
