Radio 2 Folk Awards 2015

Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis host the sixteenth annual Folk Awards, live from the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, celebrating the very best folk, roots and acoustic music.

The Folk Awards, now in their 16th year, are 麻豆社 Radio 2's annual celebration of folk music's past, present and future.

This year, the event moves to Cardiff Bay and the stunning Wales Millennium Centre, for two and a half hours of live music and more.
Hosts Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis will introduce performances by artists including Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Loudon Wainwright III, Kate Rusby and 9Bach. There will also be special performances in tribute to Ewan MacColl and the late Meredydd Evans.
Ewan MacColl will be inducted into the Folk Awards Hall of Fame in this, his centenary year. Born in Salford in 1915 to Scottish parents, he would go on to be one of Britain's greatest ever songwriters. His pioneering and idealistic work in folk music, theatre and radio made him a hugely influential character in his lifetime and beyond it.
Dr. Meredydd Evans passed away in February 2015 at the age of 95. His wide-ranging contributions as a singer, historian, broadcaster and Welsh language campaigner made him a significant, respected and popular figure across Welsh culture. He will be posthumously honoured with the Good Tradition Award.
Throughout the programme, prizes will also be awarded for the Best Group, Best Duo, Musician of the Year, Folk Singer of the Year, Best Original Song, Best Traditional Track and Best Album (voted for by Radio 2 listeners). The Horizon Award will go to the best emerging act.
An interval programme, hosted by Simon Mayo, will bring together all four nominees in the 麻豆社 Radio 2 Young Folk Award, Radio 2's annual search for the most promising folk musicians aged 16-21. They will all perform live in what has become an inspiring annual highlight of the Folk Awards evening.
