The Rising Tide
The sea around Northern Ireland is expected to rise by at least half a metre by the end of this century. This threatens many coastal communities -- but also areas far inland including聽Belfast, Derry, Downpatrick, and Larne. So how much longer can we keep building sea defences? And at what cost?
Some scientists now argue that we need to move back from the sea altogether. In Retreat from the Sea, Joe Doran meets people聽around the coast, whose land and homes are already under threat. We also find out how roads, schools and rail lines will have to be adapted to cope with the ever more frequent floods we're experiencing. (Photos courtesy of Translink)
