As our gardens reach their peak in terms of grow-your-own, Gillian Russell and Dan Holland find out more about the wealth of fresh fruit and veg that's ready right now and what we can do with it in the kitchen.

Chef Michael Smith cooks live in the gardens at the 麻豆社 in Inverness. This week he's making beetroot risotto with a red wine stock and an open vegetable lasagne - great for using up all the seasonal vegetables from your garden!

Pennie Latin wanders round the kitchen garden at the Castle of Mey, the Queen Mother's beloved holiday retreat on the north coast of Caithness. Head gardener Andrew Glaister tells Pennie about battling the elements, the clever layout of the gardens and the amazing produce they grow.
