Paul Granjon
Paul Granjon is a Cardiff-based performance artist and robot designer who explores the relationship between human beings and machines and asks what aspects of our lives we鈥檙e willing to hand over to robots.
听
Paul studied fine art in his native France but very early in his career he put down the paint brush and picked up a soldering iron and a computer programming manual instead. He moved to Cardiff in the mid-1990s and has since created an array of robots and performances which entertain audiences in theatres and galleries but also confront them with questions about the ethics of different technologies.
听
Adam meets Paul at his workshop in Canton, Cardiff where he鈥檚 introduced to a few of Paul鈥檚 robots and gets to experience what it鈥檚 like to be a robot using Paul鈥檚 robotic perception kit. He also talks to computer scientist Dr. Grzegorz Cielniak from Lincoln University, who鈥檚 collaborating with Paul on a new performance, and to Prof. Noel Sharkey from Sheffield University about the ethics of using military robots.
