Jim, Carole and George are pruning their way around the garden. From shrubs that we prune to promote winter stem colour, through fruit pruning to pruning of early spring-flowering shrubs, the team show what we could and should be pruning at this time of the year, how to do it and why. It's also the season for pricking out and potting on, and George shows how to do just that with his summer sowing of the stunning blue poppy.

Jim is with the all-new allotmenteers of Aden Park in Mintlaw. Last year this was a field and now it's a set-up with 42 new allotment sites, all ready to get growing. Jim will track the progress of this new gardening community from the very young to the older and gardening wise, sharing knowledge, experiences and chat throughout the season.

Carole visits Charlotte Wemyss, who talks about her passion for erythroniums in the woodland garden of Wemyss Castle. Erythroniums form drifts of colour in Charlotte's woodlands and combine with large numbers of narcissi and bluebells to give a stunning spring display.
