Until recently the only police officers allowed to carry tasers were fully trained, authorised firearms cops. But now the 50,000-volt stun guns are being rolled out to other frontline bobbies, including some in the local policing teams.
PC Nikki Cammiss is a neighbourhood officer who is taser trained. She believes it is an invaluable tool to restrain individuals who are violent or pose a threat to people's safety. In today's episode of Neighbourhood Blues she is called into action to hunt down a man in Bridlington, Yorkshire, who is suspected of attacking someone with a knife.
Meanwhile in Hull, a crowd of hooded youths on bikes is causing a nuisance outside a local fast-food restaurant. After a complaint from a customer, the neighbourhood team arrives to try and move them on. But one foolish lad, goaded on by his mates, decides he's not going to go quietly - and it's not long before he finds himself in a lot of trouble.
