Martin McGuinness criticised after saying the IRA never deliberately targeted civilians
Martin McGuinness has been criticised after saying the IRA could have "killed thousands on the streets of London and in Northern Ireland" during the Troubles.
The deputy First Minister made the remark during a debate at the Oxford Union on Tuesday night. Mr McGuinness also insisted that civilians died where the IRA made "huge mistakes" in operations that went wrong, but they had not been deliberately targeted.
The debate was part of an event hosted by al-Jazeera TV. The debate had three parts. Those included a look at Mr McGuinness' past, a session on why he did what he did and a look at his work in conflict resolution.
There was also a question and answer session with a panel which included an Israeli negotiator and a Hamas supporter and the audience.
Victor Barker, whose 12 year old son James was killed in the Omagh attack, was at the event.聽 He聽says
