Sigrid Rausing is a publisher and philanthropist. She founded the in 1995, to support human rights organisations.听听 Her trust has distributed nearly 拢200 million all over the world. Rausing鈥檚 fortune came from her grandfather Ruben Rausing鈥檚 Tetra pak cardboard packaging.听Jenni talks to her as part of the Woman鈥檚 Hour Power List series.听 How much power does she hold?

Women and Politics

New research shows that men are more interested in and more informed about politics than women.听 The commissioned by the Economic and Social Research Council looked into political engagement in ten countries across the world, from the UK and US to South Korea and Colombia.听 In all of them there was a gender gap.听听 Why aren鈥檛 women choosing to know more about current affairs?听 Joining Jenni to discuss are Professor James Curran of Goldsmiths College who led the research and Dr Rosie Campbell of Birkbeck College.

Intersex

In recent weeks, it has been revealed that four elite female athletes, who competed in the London Olympics have been found to be intersex. They all have XY chromosomes and 鈥 until surgery - had internal male testes. It is the first time that the condition, which affects about one in 4,500 people, has been found in competing athletes and despite the fact that it is more common than we might think, it is not widely discussed. In the past few years, however,听intersex people have begun to find a voice and intersex characters are appearing in films and books. , whose latest novel 鈥楪olden Boy鈥 is about a young boy growing up as an intersex child joins Holly Greenberry 鈥 the founder of 鈥 to discuss the intersex condition and the impact it has on the lives of intersex people and their families.

Child Maintenance

New research funded by the Nuffield Foundation has found that two thirds of single parents on out of work benefits do not receive any child maintenance from their child鈥檚 other parent. It also found that where it is paid, child maintenance plays a key role in lifting children out of poverty.听These findings come at a time when the government is planning to introduce a fee to use the Child Support Agency and to encourage parents to negotiate their own private arrangements. What impact will these proposed changes have on families who are unable to come to an arrangement? Jenni is joined by one of the authors of the report, Caroline Bryson, to talk about its findings and recommendations.
