Episode 14
Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr takes his four shortlisted students to cook at the exclusive Cliveden House in Berkshire - where his father once worked as a kitchen hand.
Three of the UK's most renowned chefs are going back to catering college. Tom Kitchin, Theo Randall and Michel Roux Jr are each looking for a young student to take under their wing, someone they can mentor and inspire, who can eventually become their protege.
Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr takes his four shortlisted students from the College of Food at University College Birmingham to cook at the exclusive Cliveden House in Berkshire - where back in the 1950s, Michel's father, the legendary Albert Roux, worked for the wealthy Astor family as a kitchen hand. It was from these humble beginnings that the Roux cooking dynasty in the UK was built.
This challenge will see the aspiring young chefs put to the test in the kitchen where Michel's father worked. With a game consomm茅, pan fried mackerel, roasted pork loin and chocolate and orange fondant on the menu, the students are inspired by Michel's enthusiasm for fine French cuisine. But with rival chefs Theo Randall and Tom Kitchin arriving for lunch, their excitement soon turns to nerves.
With Michel's reputation on the line, he can only hope his chosen four impress, while Theo and Tom's scrutiny of the competition gives them food for thought for their own search.
Come the end of the day, Michel must make the hard decision as to who has impressed the most and which student will be going home - only three students will stay on in the hope of becoming his protege.
