Foula - Lonely Island

From the Â鶹Éç's documentary series Look Stranger in 1973, we learn about life on the remote Shetland island of Foula and the difficulties such a location poses to its inhabitants.

Eadar 1970 agus 1976 bha sgiobaidhean bhon t-sreath Look Stranger a' filmadh air feadh Bhreatainn gus dealbh a thoirt air an dòigh-beatha a bh' ann an diofar sgìrean den rìoghachd tro shùilean an fheadhainn a bha beò unnta bho latha gu latha. Ann an 1973 fhuair sinn dealbh air a' choimhearsneachd a bh' ann an Eilean Fhùghlaigh a Sealtainn, eilean cho iomallach 's a bh' anns an dùthaich aig an àm, 's iad air raon-laighe ùr fhaighinn. Tha sinn cuideachd a' faighinn sealladh air Eilean Èirisgeigh 's na h-Eileanan an Iar tro shùilean fhear a bha air tilleadh à Glaschu ann an 1970 cuide ri theaghlach, Donnchadh Caimbeul, gus dachaigh ùr a dhèanamh dhaibh.

The Â鶹Éç documentary series Look Stranger, filmed throughout Britain between 1970 and 1976, allowed viewers the opportunity to witness life in differing communities through the eyes of local people. From 1973 we learn about life on the remote Shetland island of Foula and the difficulties such a location poses to those living there on a daily basis. However, at the time of filming, work had just finished on the island's newly built airstrip that locals hoped would make their lives easier. From 1970, the series profiled the island of Eriskay in the Western Isles and focused on Duncan Campbell, his wife and their eight children who had recently returned from Glasgow to make a new home for themselves on the island.
