Tom Robinson and the 6 Music audience collaborate on a playlist celebrating 50 years of Jamaican independence, from influential artists such as Bob Marley to King Tubby.
Tom Robinson and the 6 Music audience collaborate on a playlist celebrating the 50 years since Jamaica gained its independence from the United Kingdom on 6 August 1962.
From the enormous cultural impact of artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, through to the influence of its musical styles such as 'toasting' which evolved into rap, and the introduction of movements such as dancehall and ragga. The small Caribbean island has had a huge impact on global music and culture.
Tom invites the 6 Music audience to share their favourite memories and tunes online to create the ultimate playlist, including luminaries such as Bob Marley, King Tubby, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
