Gideon Coe sits in

Shaun Keaveny is off for a week, so Gideon Coe sits in with the usual kicking playlist, running from northern soul to new folk, rock 'n' roll to indie disc and author Stephen Pile in after 9am

Shaun is off for a week so Gideon Coe sits in and once more does wonders for your ears from his impeccable taste in music. Gideon is joined live in studio by Matt Everitt for an irreverent take on the day's music news. And as for the soundtrack? We're talking...The Smiths, The Beatles, Friendly Fires, Bon Iver, Emmy The Great, A Tribe Called Quest, Bowie, Prince, MGMT...

All this plus authur Stephen Pile is in the studio after 9am to chat about his book The Ultimate Book of Heroic Failures which is written in celebration of human inadequacy in all its forms. Anyone can be a success, but it takes real and original genius to foul up big time.

The former journalist for for the Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph has filled the book with most spectacular and absurd failures of the last twenty-five years. There are 235 stories in total spread from the Outer Hebrides to America, Ireland, Australia, Europe and Africa. The Syrian entry, for example, holds the world record as the driver who got most lost under Sat-Nav direction (5000 miles). From the most driving test failures (959), the worst war correspondent (reporting from a broom cupboard), the worst robbery (when two different sets of bank robbers struck simultaneously) and the worst mugger (who left his victim $250 better off).
