麻豆社 PROMS 2011
Live from the Royal Albert Hall, London
Presented by Rob Cowan
The most influential orchestral work of the 20th century is at the heart of tonight's Prom. Stravinsky's Rite caused a scandal at its premiere in 1913 and still sounds sensational nearly 100 years later. Myung-Whun Chung conducts the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in this riot of orchestral colour.
The first half of the concert pairs works by German Romantics from either end of the 19th century, Weber's Oberon overture and Brahms's beautiful Double Concerto, featuring the brothers Capu莽on as soloists. Brahms's final work for orchestra, the Double Concerto, was in part a gesture of reconciliation towards his friend the violinist Joseph Joachim and makes huge demands on both soloists.
