ETA

After killing over 800 people in more than 40 years in the name of Basque independence, ETA has proclaimed a ceasefire in its armed campaign. Sàbhailteachd mhèinnean san Tuirc

Thàinig sàbhailteachd mhèinnearan gu aire an t-saoghail an-uiridh le sgeulachd iongantach mhèinnearan Chile. Thuig daoine cho cunnartach 's a tha an obair, mìos às a dhèidh, nuair a bhàsaich 29 duine ann an spreadhadh ann am mèinn ann an New Zealand. 'S iad Sìona agus an Ruis na dùthchannan as miosa air an t-saoghail son tubaistean aig mèinnean. San treas àite tha an Tuirc. Chaidh sin a dhearbhadh sa Chèitein an-uiridh nuair a chaill deich duine fichead am beatha ann an tubaist mèinn ann an ceann a tuath na dùthcha. Chuir cuid às leth an riaghaltais nach robh iad a' dèanamh gu leòr gus smachd a chumail air sàbhàilteachd sa ghnìomhachas.

Mine safety in Turkey

Mine safety in Turkey

Mine safety was brought to the world’s attention last year with the extraordinary story of the Chilean miners. The full dangers of the profession were realised a month after the Chile rescue, when 29 men died in an explosion in a New Zealand mine. China and Russia have the worst safety record in the world. Turkey is in third place. This record was emphasised last May when 30 men lost their lives in a mining accident in a northern region. Some criticised the government for not doing enough to regulate the industry in order to ensure the safety of miners.
