Ciobairean Mara (Sea Shepherds)

Documentary following the shepherds tending livestock on the small, mainly uninhabited islands off the west coast of Scotland.

Airson iomadach linn, tha na ceudan de na h-eileanan beaga far chosta taobh siar na h-Alba, a' chuid mhòr gun daoine a' fuireach orra, air an cleachdadh airson sprèidh, ach gu sònraichte caoraich.

Tha Derek Moireasdan air na còraichean feurachaidh a ghabhail os làimhe airson nan Eileanan Mòra. Tha am prògram ga leantainn air a' chiad turas le buidheann eòlach de chìobairean mara gus uain a thoirt far an eilein.

Tha Coinneach Caimbeul air a bhith na chìobair air Eilean Phabaigh, a tha cuideachd faisg air na Hearadh airson còrr air trichead bliadhna, ach tha ceangal aig an teaghlach ris an eilean a tha a' dol air ais trì ginealaichean. An-diugh, tha dàimh làidir aig Coinneach agus a mhic leis an teaghlach aig a bheil an eilean agus air a bheil Coinneach na chìobair. Ann an Leòdhas, tha cìobair mara ùr, a dh'aindeoin eachdraidh ga nochdadh fhèin mar bhall luachmhor de sgioba sam bith. Mus do thòisich Sandy Granville air cìobaireachd, bha e ag obair na neach-tagraidh aig a' Bhàr ann an Lunnain.

For centuries the hundreds of small, mainly uninhabited islands off the west coast of Scotland have been used by shepherds in the production of livestock, especially sheep.

Derek Morrison of Stornoway has just taken over the grazing rights for the Shiants, a group of rocky islands which lie off the east coast of the Isle of Harris. The programme follows him on his first trip with an experienced band of sea shepherds to take the lambs off the island for the sales.

Kenny Campbell has been shepherd on the island of Pabbay, which also lies off Harris, for over 30 years, but his family's connection with the island goes back three generations. Today there is a strong bond between Kenny and his sons, and the family that owns the island.
