Alejandro Escovedo Session

Alejandro Escovedo joins Bob to play tracks from his new album 'Street Songs of Love'. Produced by Tony Visconti and recorded in Kentucky, the album features Bruce Springsteen.

Born in San Antonio in 1951, one of 12 sons of Mexican immigrants, Alejandro Escovedo's life has taken him on an extraordinary journey from his home in Texas to California to New York and back again to Texas, encompassing a wide breadth of music.

In the 1970s, he surfaced on San Francisco's no-holds-barred punk scene. Moving to New York the following decade, Alejandro forged the country-punk sound that later became known as Alternative Country. Returning to Austin, Alejandro combined all manner of Americana music in a harbinger of what was to come in his solo career.

Alejandro, who was named 'Artist of the Decade' by the influential 'No Depression' magazine in 1998, was felled by a dangerous bout of Hepatitis C in 2003, which took him off the road and into recovery.

Admirers, including Sheila E. (his niece), John Cale, Calexico, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and the Jayhawks put together a tribute album at this time.

Alejandro joins Bob to play tracks from his new album 'Street Songs of Love'. Produced by Tony Visconti and recorded in Lexington, Kentucky, the album features guest performances by Bruce Springsteen and Ian Hunter.
